How to Verify a TeckyGuys Academy Graduate’s Credentials
Hiring or working with someone who says they completed a TeckyGuys Academy pathway? Here’s how to confirm exactly what they earned — and what that credential actually means.
First, Know That There Are Two Different Types of Credentials
A TeckyGuys graduate may hold up to two distinct types of recognition, and it’s important to tell them apart:
- Cisco Networking Academy course-completion certificates and digital badges — issued directly by Cisco for completing specific Cisco courses delivered through the Academy.
- TeckyGuys Academy pathway-level awards — issued by TeckyGuys Academy itself, confirming the student completed the required coursework, hands-on labs, and capstone assessment for that pathway level.
Neither of these is the same as a professional OEM certification (like CCNA, CompTIA Security+, LPIC-1, or DCCA). Those are separate, provider-controlled credentials that require the individual to register for and pass an independent exam — something a candidate would hold in addition to, not instead of, the credentials above.
Verification Checklist
1. Ask which credential they’re claiming.
Have the candidate specify exactly what they hold — a Cisco course certificate, a TeckyGuys pathway award, an OEM certification, or some combination. Clear candidates will know the difference.
2. For a Cisco course-completion certificate or badge:
- Ask for the certificate or digital badge itself — Cisco-issued badges are typically verifiable through Cisco’s own badge/credential platform.
- Confirm the course name matches a real Cisco Networking Academy course relevant to the pathway claimed (e.g., “Introduction to Networks,” “CCNA: Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials,” “Introduction to Cybersecurity”).
3. For a TeckyGuys Academy pathway award:
- Ask which pathway and level the award corresponds to (e.g., “Networking Foundations Award,” “CCNA Network Administration Award,” “Cybersecurity Foundations Award”).
- Request the candidate’s evidence portfolio — TeckyGuys pathways are built around real evidence: configurations, diagrams, troubleshooting records, incident reports, or capstone project documentation. A genuine graduate should be able to walk you through real examples of this work.
- Contact TeckyGuys Academy directly (info@teckyguys.com or (737) 397-1127) to confirm enrollment and completion status for a named individual, with the candidate’s consent.
4. For a claimed OEM certification (CCNA, CompTIA, LPIC-1, RHCSA, DCCA, etc.):
- These are verified directly through the certifying body, not through TeckyGuys. Most providers (Cisco, CompTIA, Linux Professional Institute, Red Hat, Schneider Electric, etc.) offer their own certification lookup or verification tools.
- Do not accept a TeckyGuys award as proof of an OEM certification — they are not interchangeable, and TeckyGuys does not issue these certifications itself.
5. Watch for red flags.
- A candidate claiming a “TeckyGuys CCNA certification” or similar — this phrasing misrepresents an academy award as a manufacturer certification.
- Inability to explain or walk through their own portfolio, configurations, or capstone work.
- No supporting documentation at all — genuine graduates should have certificates, badges, or a portfolio to show.
Why This Distinction Matters
Training providers exist to prepare people for real, industry-recognized certifications — not to replace them. A candidate who’s completed a TeckyGuys pathway has real, demonstrable hands-on skills and — depending on the level — Cisco-issued course credentials. That’s valuable. But it’s a different thing from holding CCNA or CompTIA Security+, and a trustworthy hire (and a trustworthy Academy) will always be clear about which one they’re presenting.
